Wisdom Teeth Removal Some Before and After Care Tips

Before Surgery:

  • Inform your dentist of any medications or medical conditions 
  • Avoid Aspirin, Ibuprofen for 7-10 days beforehand, as it can increase bleeding
  • Have soft foods on hand like yogurt and smoothies for the initial recovery stage
  • Ice packs near the procedure location aid with swelling control

Day of Surgery: 

  • Wear comfortable clothing that’s easily removable 
  • Arrange transportation from the surgery center
  • Expect temporary numbness from anesthesia during the ride home

First 24 Hours:

  • Rest, but regularly apply ice packs to cheeks 20 minutes per hour  
  • Ibuprofen helps inflammation and pain every 6 hours as needed
  • Eat soft, cool foods and stay hydrated with water
  • Avoid strenuous activity and smoking

After 24 Hours:  

  • Gently rinse mouth with salt water if bleeding occurs
  • Cold foods are easiest, always avoid hot food until comfortable chewing
  • Continue ice packs as swelling decreases over 2-5 days
  • Resume brushing in 10 days once sutures dissolve
